The Portland Laboratory expanded in size from 1,630 square feet to 2,620 square feet on September 19, 2011.  The satellite office now includes a total of 6 incubators, 6 refrigerators, three offices, a storage room and two restrooms.

The new addition to the Food Microbiology Laboratory significantly increases NEL’s laboratory capacity and improves the overall flow of laboratory processes.  The expansion follows NEL moving its Food Microbiology Laboratory from the Winslow, Maine facility to Portland, Maine.

This expansion has created a new laboratory analyst position as well as support staff.  The expansion will help NEL grow its current Food Microbiology business throughout the Southern Maine and New England Food Producing Markets.
